Birthdays: Lessons From 25, Resolutions for 26

With my 26th birthday right around the corner, I thought I’d reflect on the last year of my life, and make some resolutions for the upcoming year.

I spent a lot of my 25th year realizing that no matter what you do, some times you are just going to get shit on, people will take advantage of you, and life isn’t always what you think it’s going to be.  I felt frustrated, stuck, anxious, sad, and my heart hurt for a good part of the year, from a number of different things.

Once I started QLC, I felt like I had a purpose. It has taught me to focus more on doing things for myself, and that focus definitely began to leak into different parts of my life. It opened up the creative spirit in me that had been locked up for a bit, and I used it to my advantage in other areas, and I’m finally starting to see results. I’m getting promoted at a job that I absolutely LOVE, I’m learning how to “save” money (TRYING!), and people are actually reading QLC, our labor of love! My life is feeling on track… for today at least.

So, here they are. My lessons from 25 and resolutions for 26:

  1. People come and go.
  2. Some people serve a specific purpose in your life and they are only in it until their mission is complete.
  3. Family is #1. Always. No questions asked.
  4. Vegas doesn’t only have one casino. They even have them at the airport!
  5. Patience, patience, patience.
  6. There are angels that live amongst us in the form of friends and save you when you think you have nothing left. Hold on to those people as tight as you can.
  7. Go after what you want. Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself.
  8. You can’t please everyone.
  9. Quality always wins over quantity.
  10. Take it one day at a time.

  1. Encourage or motivate someone to be great.
  2. Focus on the positives and not the negatives.
  3. Have more patience with other people. Think about where they are coming from first.
  4. Surround myself with people that are smarter and more driven than I am.
  5. Read more books for pleasure.
  6. See the world and more of what it has to offer.
  7. Learn to forgive others, but learn to live without them as well.
  8. Learn from the past; don’t make the same mistake twice.
  9. Fall in love (that’s an ‘every year’ resolution, obviously)
  10. Take it one day at a time.

Anyway, 26 sounds so old…

Happy birthday to me!
