[ed. note: This is a guest post featuring a very worthwhile new Kickstarter project from some wonderful women in their Quarter Life!]
“The Empowerment Project: Extraordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things“ is a docu-series that aims to create positive content for women by shining a light on inspirational, powerful, and strong women in many career fields across the US. Made for women by women!
We are trying to fund this project on Kickstarter that has the potential to empower and inspire women nationwide. Our goal is to travel across the US for a month this fall with an all female film crew and interview 10 strong women at the top of their industries and find out how they got to where they are, what it takes to be a strong woman in their career and how they balance work life and personal life. At the end of our journey we will have a 10 part docu-series highlighting a variety of amazing women in different career fields as well as a life changing experience for us as filmmakers and friends.
This project is our answer to the Quarter Life Crisis. We want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves that has real meaning. We are striving to be a part of the feminist conversation that has recently sparked up again and produce content that is positive for women since these days it feels like there isn’t much of that around.
To make this dream a reality we need to raise $25,000 by May 27th on Kickstarter, otherwise this project doesn’t happen at all. We need the money for transportation to each city, equipment rentals, accommodations, etc. Please donate and share so we can go after our dream of producing positive content for women that will create role models for girls and women everywhere! I grew up in Evanston, IL right outside Chicago and I always had a camera in hand growing up. I have always loved making movies and documentaries and I went to film school at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. I graduated in 2008 and moved myself out to Los Angeles to pursue a career in television and documentary filmmaking which is exactly what I have been doing! I worked on “Dancing with the Stars” as a story assistant, then associate producer then field producer for the past 10 seasons as well as other shows like “MADE” for MTV, “Minute to Win It” for NBC, “Rachael vs Guy Celebrity Cook Off” for the Food Network and “Top Chef Masters” for Bravo.
Documentaries about female empowerment are my passion and I’m hoping this project can catapult us into a pathway where these projects are the norm for us! I live with my husband to be (getting married in June!) and my puppy named Kuma. I met my dear friend [and co-filmmaker] Dana here in 2007 when we traveled around the country making short films for a company called Dreaming Tree Films. We have a great working relationship as well as a strong friendship, she is my soul sister and I can’t wait to go on this journey with her!
